I have spent countless hours since attempting to install the full software and driver package for my Photosmart da printer, to no avail. Whenever the computer is started, the Solution Center icon displays in the taskbar notification area but disappears as soon I move the cursor to it. I can open Solution Center from a desktop shortcut but it gives no indication that it is functioning with my printer. Clicking any of the scan buttons yields a brief flash of the HP Scanning window, then after a couple seconds all the scan buttons revert back to the clickable state and there is no farther response.

I have uninstalled, rebooted, and re-installed. I have run the Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter. I have also run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, after two tries and a reboot it did make it completely through the check, but the test scan option at the end yielded no result.

I’ve checked numerous posts in this forum regarding this issue but they all seem to date back to Jan – May of The advice given in most of them regarding uninstalling a specific Microsoft Update does not apply, that update does not exist on this computer, nor does the one which followed it.

I have gone as far as downloading and running the “Show or Hide Updates” troubleshooter, neither update is shown. Any suggestions would be welcome. I need the functionality of the Solution Center’s scanning function and related options.

It’s rather disappointing to find that 18 months after the issue began, it has not yet been addressed and HP is still offering up what would seem to be a semi-functional and rather mislabeled full driver and software package.

I’ve started the process es you’ve outlined, but I’m not sure if I’ve performed them correctly given the differences between your instructions and the options available on my computer. I’m pretty sure the Apps and Features settings window is the same as the Programs and Features you mentioned, so I opened that and uninstalled the printer.

There is no Devices and Printers option shown when searching, I did find Printers and Scanners but the printer in question is not listed. I am guessing that the uninstall removed my da from the list. I opened the Printer User Interface per your instructions, but there is no “Drivers” tab. In fact, there are no tabs at all, just a long list of rundlle32 printui. Regarding the HP Scan and Capture App, I am hesitant to try installing this due to the documentation stating that the correct Windows 8.

I don’t have 8. Should I install the 64 bit 8. I’ll await farther clarification or corroboration before attempting the re-install, just to be sure I’ve not missed anything. Please download HP scan and capture from the windows store and install it. Please follow all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Later install the both the printer drivers and HP scan and capture. This should do the trick for you if there are no operating system issues with the computer. As a last resort, you will need to backup your files and perform a system recovery to factory settings and then install the printer software and HP scan and capture.

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. Right click on the Windows button to access device manager Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top. Click on print server properties. You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
